Komodo Edit is a free open-source and cross-platform editor geared toward programmers. So far, it is the closest thing to the Windows-only UltraEdit or Vedit in the free Linux world. It is very configurable, and unlike Emacs, it does not require one to know Lisp.

I have not began to try to figure out how to do syntax highlighting in Komodo. I did some google search but have not found anybody mention it either. I will write something here once I figure out how to do it. And please share it with me if you figure it out before I do. :)
